WHAT CAUSES RINGING EARS?

One of my friends complained recently of ringing ears. The problem started after taking some drugs. Could the drug had been responsible for this condition? How could the ringinmg be eliminated? Though the condition did not pose any serious danger, is it dangerous on the long run? Readers comments are welcomed. Thanks
